Mouflon control operations – January 2026
Temporary restrictions on access to natural areas for safety reasons
The Island Council of Tenerife is extending the 2025 mouflon control campaign in several sectors of Teide National Park and the Corona Forestal Natural Park, in order to make up for the cancellation of control days scheduled for November.
The mouflon (Ovis orientalis Gmelin, 1774) is an invasive alien species introduced to the highlands of Tenerife in the 1970s for hunting purposes. It poses a serious threat to the Park’s native flora, which is why population control measures are authorised every year.
For safety reasons, access and presence are prohibited in the sectors where these control operations are carried out.
This information must be taken into account when planning activities in natural areas. Therefore, the affected sectors and their immediate surroundings should be avoided while these operations are taking place.
You can consult the Interactive Map (by activating the layer called “Mouflon Control 2025”) and clicking on the coloured areas to find information about the affected sectors, dates, and itineraries or trail sections that will be closed as a result of the mouflon control operations.
