Camping area, Montes de Chío, Guía de Isora

150 Places

Description

Chío Campsite is located on the south-west slopes of the island, at an altitude of 1,600 metres, affording a unique vantage point from which to enjoy views of the mountain peaks. You can see Pico Viejo and Mount Teide, together with other smaller, darker-coloured volcanoes, such as Montaña Reventada and Montaña Sámara.

Due to its proximity to the island’s peaks, its climate is characterised by highly variable temperatures, both from from season to season and from day to night.

It is a forested area with scattered and well-developed Canary Island pine trees, alongside other species such as corazoncillo (Lotus campylocladus), tagasaste (Cytisusproliferus), tomillo (Micromeriahyssopifolia) and chahorra (Sideritiscanariensis). Local fauna includes the great spotted woodpecker, drilling into the oldest trunks, the blue chaffinch and the Tenerife lizard.

Vehicle access is via a few metres along a dirt track.

The camping area adjoins the recreational area offering a range of services.

Tips

  • Enjoy the local plant and animal life without disturbing it. Be curious but from a safe and respectful distance.
  • Follow the rules and instructions on the signs to avoid disturbance to people and animals.
  • Keep the environment clean and leave no litter behind. Rubbish and cigarette butts must be disposed of in the designated containers.
  • Travel in small groups to keep noise pollution and the impact on the environment to a minimum.
  • Use the water in the toilets and taps responsibly. Water is a scarce and precious commodity on our island.
